Upload Caption File
You can add your own caption file (.vtt format) to a video already uploaded in your 3C Media account. If your meeting was recorded in Zoom, a caption file will be available to download to your computer and upload to 3C Media.
To upload existing caption file:
- Click on the Media tab
- Click on the title of your video.
- Under Media Tools, click on Captions.
- Click Choose File and select the caption file from your computer.
- Click Upload; the caption file name may automatically change without notification when uploading.
- Click Save.
Guidelines & Pre-Requisites for Requesting Captions
Captioning can be requested after you upload videos on the 3C Media Solutions website, and from your Canvas course (for uploaded media). Please note: Captioning services are available while funding exists.
You must agree to the below guidelines/pre-requisites; failure to comply will result in current and future delays and/or rejection of submissions.
Videos must:
- Be instructor-created for student use only
- Have clear audio
- Be in English
- Not be mostly music
- Not to be submitted for practice or experimentation
- Not be feature length films or documentaries
Appropriate submissions will be processed, and captions will be automatically added to your media. You will be notified on your account page. Use Subtitle Horse to edit the created captions manually.
Request Closed Captions from Your 3C Media Account
Select Media in the menu (closed captioning cannot be requested for content uploaded to Files).
- Click on the Media tab.
- Click on the title of your video.
- Under Media Tools, click on Captions.
- Click on Request DECT captions for media and complete the form. Caption Type field has two options, computer generated and human generated.
- Select Submit.
After submitting a caption request, captions will be added to your video in approximately 1-5 business days. To verify the caption status, go back to the Caption area of your video.
Locate the Caption File
- Click the Media tab.
- Click the title of your video.
- Under Media Tools, click on Captions.
- The .vtt file will be contained in the Caption File field.
To view the captions in the video, click to play the video, and click on the "CC" icon to turn on/off.
Request Closed Captions from Your Canvas Course
- Select the 3C Media tool within your Canvas course.
- Select Add From Library.
- Click Actions to the right of the video title, then click on Captions.
- Select Request DECT captions for media and complete the form. Caption Type field has two options, computer generated and human generated.
- Select Submit.
After submitting a caption request, captions will be added to your video in approximately 1-5 business days.
