Q&A
Q: Can students annotate the whiteboards?
A: Yes, when permitted to do so.
Q: Will using whiteboards limit account storage?
A: TechConnect Zoom accounts currently allow unlimited editable whiteboards.
Q: Where can you access the sign language feature?
A: You will enable the feature in your meeting (In Meeting Advanced) settings. Here, you can also enable this feature by default in the scheduler. Or you can enable it manually in the scheduler. There is an account setting in the TechConnect Zoom web portal as well as a scheduler setting for the sign language feature. https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/9644962487309-Using-Sign-Language-Interpretation.
Q: Can you please clarify the difference between different languages in automated captions and the translated captions feature?
A: Automated captions provide captioning for the spoken language in the meeting (example: Spanish to Spanish) (the speaker would need to select the language they are speaking for everyone in the meeting to read their spoken language); Translated captions require an add-on paid license and provides translated captions from one language to different language (example: Spanish to English).
Q: Could you share the slide about language and the captions options one more time, please?
A: A recording of this webinar will be emailed to all registrants and attendees once it becomes available.
Q: Where can we find the live transcript in multiple languages?
A: Automated captions can provide spoken language captions in a different language and is a setting in your account; ‘Translated Captions’ is an add-on license that you would need to pay for to translate one language to another for the captioning. For more information, please see the following TechConnect Support article titled, Language Interpretation Options

Q: If we need to change admins, does that go through TechConnect or can we transfer the role ourselves?
A: A Zoom administrator role can be changed in Zoom, if the admin for the Canvas integration with Zoom needs to be changed, please contact Mirla at mgarcia@ccctechconnect.org before making any changes.
Q: My Canvas classes still have the title “Siskiyous Zoom”. Is that TechConnect Zoom now, or do I need to do something else to access TechConnect Zoom?
A: TechConnect Zoom is the platform for Zoom, each district had the option to name the tool differently, so your Siskiyous Zoom is the same as TechConnect Zoom - and will look like the interface Mirla will share in her presentation.
Q: Have we fixed the issue of when a student creates an appointment in Student Connect, it shows up on the calendars of all students enrolled in that section?
A: Student Connect does not integrate with the Canvas calendar. When a student schedules in Student Connect, they do not have the ability to see other students’ meetings information. They only see that the time slot is not available for them to book.
Q: I have a business Zoom account. When I tried to access my PCC Zoom I got a message saying I needed to change my Zoom account settings. I want to be sure it doesn’t affect my Libra Lens business account.
A: TechConnect Zoom is to be used exclusively for California Community College business, so you would need a separate account for your California Community College email address.
Q: Is it possible to disable the calendar integration of TechConnect per the Canvas shell? We are using TechConnect for our tutoring services in Canvas, but students do not want to be bombarded with "to-dos" and calendar notifications for TechConnect in shells for tutoring meetings.
A: Yes, please contact your Canvas admin. They can disable Calendar integration for users in your Canvas shell.
Q: Can you address the problem of the TechConnect Zoom calendar repeating past course recording links in the new canvas course calendar?? Is this a Canvas glitch or a TechConnect Zoom glitch?
A: This is not a TechConnect Zoom glitch. You will select which parts of your Canvas shell to copy to the new shell. Be sure not to copy the calendar from the previous semesters which contain the old recording links.
Q: Can you embed a Zoom meeting in a Canvas page? Currently, I link the zoom meeting to a cloud recording. But I would like to be able to embed the video in a multi-item page.
A: Yes, you can embed the share link from a Zoom recording within a module in your Canvas course. Note the module and content you wish to share with your students must be published.
Q: Do you have to publish your recordings?
A: No. You have the option to publish or not. A recording can be published for a specific time, then expired/unpublished if needed. Note, students are unable to view unpublished content.
Q: If unpublished, can the students still see the recording?
A: Within their Canvas course, students only see content the instructor has published.
Q: Are we able to review a recording of this session later?
A: Absolutely, registrants will receive an email link to the recording.
Q: Where can we find more info on the stand-alone application?
A: Please email us at support@ccctechconnect.org. We can get you connected to Mirla.
Q: If we don't see Student Connect under navigation in settings, is there another place to locate it?
A: Student Connect could be a hidden app look in your Canvas settings. If you do not see Student Connect, just scroll down, click settings, click the ‘Navigation’ tab on top of the page, scroll down to the hidden apps area, click the three dots to the right of ‘Student Connect’, click ‘Enable’, and click ‘Save’. If you do not see Student Connect there, you will need to contact your Canvas admin to see if it has been added to Canvas for your college/district.
Q: What does it look like when a student books an appointment?
A: Answered live.
Q: Why does my user list only show some students?
A: Answered live.
Q: What does it look like when a student books an appointment?
A: Answered live.
Q: How do I make an appointment?
A: Answered live.
Q: Is there a student tutorial video showing students how to activate Student Connect (they have to click student connect for a dropdown list to show their name for an instructor to see) AND is there a video to show them how to filter instructor and reserve?
A: There is presently no video on this topic, but we do have an article
https://ccctechconnect.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/4408703974171-Canvas-Student-Connect-Student-Guide-.
Q: Do we get an email when a student reserves a time?
A: Answered live.
Q: Does it show you the student section or course name in the appointment?
A: Answered Live.
Q: Can you synch the zoom bookings with personal calendars (eg outlook?
A: Answered live.
Q: If my college’s math lab has multiple teachers (tutors), the student can easily select them but, each of those teachers has to be on our pro account.
A: Correct, for an instructor to use Student Connect, they would need to have a Licensed TechConnect Zoom account which will allow them unlimited meeting minutes instead of the 40-minute limit for a basic account.
Q: And sorry, one more question - does Student Connect trigger an email when a student makes an appointment, or do we have to check?
A: Answered live.
Q: Can you show how to enable Student Connect when it does not show up?
A: Answered live.
Q: Can the instructor book students?
A: Yes, you can reserve an appointment for a student.
Q: Is the appointment synced with Outlook calendar? How about Canvas Calendar?
A: Answered live.
Q: Does the booking default to Outlook?
A: Answered live.
Q: For open tutoring sessions in TechConnect Zoom that students drop/out at will, can a TA be a co-host during the session in order to enable whiteboard, waiting room, etc. but be blocked from other major privileges such as scheduling sessions?
A: Co-hosts cannot schedule meetings but are able to use the whiteboard and waiting room feature during their meeting.
Q: Do we use ConferZoom or TechConnect Zoom?
A: Answered live.
Q: When you set up a meeting in Student Connect, does it appear on your Zoom dashboard under upcoming meetings?
A: If you set up a meeting in ‘Student Connect’, it will not appear in your Zoom ‘Meetings’ dashboard of ‘Upcoming’ Meetings’.
Q: When a course was copied to a new semester, we had issues with past zoom meetings appearing on the new course calendar. Has this been repaired?
A: No, this is not a Canvas glitch. Zoom writes their meetings to your Canvas Calendar. When you create or copy a course from the past Canvas shell to the current semester, Canvas gives you the option to copy ‘ALL” or select what you would like to copy from the previous semester.
If you do not select ‘ALL’, you can deselect ‘Calendar Items’ so that these items will not populate your course for the new semester.
Q: Are you going to go over where to find the whiteboard in Zoom and how to use it with Canvas?
A: When you log into your account on the Zoom website, you should see Whiteboards in the left navigation menu. If it is not there, you can send us an email at support@ccctechconnect.org and we can check on this for your account.
