Q&A
Q) Is your PMI what TechConnect uses when creating a meeting time in Canvas?
A) Log into your account and check the setting: Use Personal Meeting ID (PMI) when scheduling a meeting. Make sure this is disabled if you do not want your Canvas meetings be scheduled by default using your PMI.
Q) How can I set mute all students within breakout rooms?
A) Log into your account and and check the setting: Mute all participants when they join a meeting. Make sure you enable this setting. When going to schedule your meeting, make sure under 'Options' that this setting is enabled for the individual meeting as well. When you open breakout rooms, so long as no one unmutes themself, they will be placed in the breakout rooms muted. If you don't make changes to your settings, you can join each breakout room and apply the 'Mute All' option instead.
Q) Can you review the Focus Mode? I didn't understand the effect of using it.
A) Please watch Zoom's YouTube video explaining Focus Mode: https://youtu.be/f9yFpxFLWVw. The ability to screen share or video share inappropriate content is restricted using Focus Mode.
Q) Can you please specify the amount of attendees needed for a large event (to purchase a webinar license)?
A) There is no minimum amount of attendees required, the minimum webinar license size supports 500. If your college/district wants to pursue this, have them email us at support@ccctechconnect.org.
Q) Again, if you make changes to the settings on zoom client, you will need to reschedule future class meetings?
A) The Zoom desktop client settings are different than the web portal/website settings. Changed settings in the desktop client should apply to previously scheduled meetings. Changes to settings in the web portal/website, may not be retroactive, and you'll want to re-schedule meetings you want the settings applied to.
Q) Is it possible to mute and unmute individual participants?
A) It is possible, but there are a couple steps to be able to unmute individual participants. You need their permission to do so. This support article has further information: https://ccctechconnect.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/4528121841563-Host-Control-of-Participant-Audio
Q) Does the desktop client post the Canvas course meetings that were set in a course?
A) If you scheduled your meetings in the Zoom app in your Canvas Course, then the upcoming meetings will display in your Zoom desktop client. However, this will only be for you, and not visible to your students who are taking your course if they too have the desktop client.
