Host controls allow the host to manage various aspects of a Zoom meeting, such as managing participants.
Once you have started your meeting, the meeting window will open. Many of the icons that you see and the behavior of your meeting are determined by both your account meeting settings and the settings that you enabled when scheduling the individual meeting.
Host Meeting Controls
Green Shield: Located on the top left of the screen, click to view meeting details including the meeting ID, passcode, and invite link. The gear icon on the right provides real-time network connection information. Security Settings Overview displays the status of your account settings. Report users to Zoom Trust and Safety and have the user removed from the meeting.
View icon: Located on the top right of the screen allows you to select your preferred video view,
Meeting Duration: The timer option appears when the 'Show meeting timers' is enabled in General settings on the desktop app. The timer can be selected for the meeting duration or time remaining.
Host Tools
The meeting control bar is located at the bottom of the screen; the images are in two parts for easier reading:
Mute: Mute/unmute yourself. Click on the caret to change certain audio settings such as selecting a microphone, selecting a speaker, as well as testing your speaker and microphone.
Stop Video: Start or stop video. Click on the caret to choose a camera, virtual background, select an Avatar, or view video settings.
Security: It is important to secure your meeting; click the icon to select or de-select the following options:
Participants: View the list of participants with the ability to mute participants: enable/disable sound notifications when someone joins/leaves the meeting: promote participants to co-host role: place participants in the waiting room: remove participants from the meeting.
Polls: Launch a poll/quiz created when scheduling the meeting or create a poll/quiz while in the meeting.
Chat: Chat with participants, and edit participant chat ability.
Share Screen: Share desktop content or applications from your device. Click the up-caret to select who can share and when.
Record: Start or stop recording to the cloud or locally to your device. Account settings can be enabled or disabled to manage where recordings are stored.
Show Captions: Enable manual or automated captions. Caption options can be established in your account settings.
Breakout Rooms: Create breakout rooms or manage pre-assigned breakout rooms established when scheduling the meeting.
Interpretation: Select Language Interpretation (Audio) or Sign Language Interpretation (Video). Requires settings enabled in your Zoom account.
Reactions: Use emojis to react to what is said or is occurring during the meeting. Customize emojis and enable the use of animated emojis through your desktop app settings. Reactions appear on your video panel and next to your name on the participant's list.
Apps: Approved Marketplace apps can be used directly from the meeting.
Whiteboards: Create a new whiteboard, or open and collaborate on existing whiteboards.
More: Menu options include (1) Start Focus Mode so only the host and co-hosts can view all participants without other participants seeing each other; (2) Live on streaming to Facebook, YouTube, Twitch, or a custom live streaming service.
Raise hand enhancements: The visibility of participants that have raised their hand is enhanced to make it easier for hosts to be aware of raised hands and take action to address that participant. A host can enable an audio chime through client settings when someone raises their hand.
End: Option to End Meeting for All or Leave Meeting and assign a host to continue with the meeting.
