TechConnect Zoom Cloud storage is for short-term use; our storage capacity is shared across the CCC system. When selecting recording settings, please select only those that are needed as a file is created for every option, which impacts file storage. Please follow these best practices to manage your recording storage usage:
- Delete Cloud recordings when they are no longer needed.
- Download recordings to store in alternate storage locations, then delete the
recording from your account.
Web Portal Recording Settings
Log into your account on the web portal.
- Click on Settings in the left navigation menu.
- Click on the Recording tab to view the default settings and make changes as needed. These options are used when the recording is created. Additional options are available after the recording has been processed, and you want to share the recording.
When only Local recording is enabled, the recording files created in a live meeting are saved to your local device. These files cannot be uploaded to the Zoom cloud.
If both Local and Cloud recordings are enabled, you will be able to select record locally or record to the cloud once in the live meeting.
The Smart Recording option uses Zoom's AI Cpompanion for recording to automatically divide cloud recordings into smart chapters for easy review, highlight important information, and create the next steps for attendees to take action. Click here to learn more about using Smart Recordings.
Locate Recordings
- Click Recordings in the left navigation menu.
- The Cloud Recordings tab is the default tab.
Click the Local Recordings tab to view the file path for recordings saved locally. You must be signed into the same device used to create the local recording.
Recording File Formats
Depending on the recording default settings enabled in your web portal account, many different types of recording file formats may be generated after the meeting ends. See below for the different types.
- MP4: Audio/Video file that is named video[random number].mp4 by default.
For example video98796876.mp4
M4A: Audio-only file that is named audio[random number].m4a by default.
For example audio98796876.m4a
M3U: Playlist file to play all individual MP4 files (Windows only) that is named playback
[random number].m3u by default. For example playback98796876.m3u
TXT: Text file that is named chat.txt by default. This file contains in-meeting chat messages that were saved. A chat file saved locally will include chat messages sent to everyone and any chat messages sent to/from the participant who saves the chat.
CC.VTT: Text file that contains closed captioning for the cloud recording.
VTT: Text file that contains the audio transcription for the cloud recording.
Share Individual Cloud Recording
To view and edit recording settings for individual recordings in the web portal:
- Click on Recordings in the left navigation menu.

who can view the recording: - Click Share Settings on the bottom left of the window. This also allows changing sharing options on an individual recording basis.

- Click on the play button to edit the recording.
- Hover over the video to see the bottom menu appear. Click on the scissors in the menu to trim the video.
