Q&A
Q: How do you define transformative?
A: Great question! This would be an approach that changes how a tool or strategy is used (e.g. a different way of using groups), and transforms student learning.
A: So I agree with Julie, and it may be something that helps us breakdown or understand a stereotype or bias, as well. For instance, are there practices or strategies that can help online discussions feel more organic or less text-dependent?
Q: What qualifies as 'transforms learning'?
A: Transforming, for me, is anything that serves to engage and empower studenets and faculty. I think back to Paulo Freire’s work, and the notion of moving away from “Sage on the Stage” and toward student-centered classroom. How can we use technology to continue this work? How does synchronous or asynchronous online learning support engagement and empowerment?
