Captions Request for Your Media

Captioning can be requested on the TechConnect Cloud (formerly known as 3C Media) website and within your Canvas shell for uploaded media. Instructions for both are provided below.

To request captioning through TechConnect Cloud, you must first upload the video file (upload video instructions). You cannot request captions for Media that has been linked from YouTube. In addition, you must agree to the below guidelines.

Prerequisites for Media Closed Captions

• Be instructor-created for student use only
• Have clear audio
• Be in English
• Not be mostly music
• Not to be submitted for practice or experimentation

Failure to comply will result in current and future delays and/or rejection of submissions.

Appropriate submissions will be processed, and captions will be automatically added to your media. You will be notified on your account page. 

Captioning services are available while funding exists.  If changes are needed, use Subtitle Horse to edit the created captions manually. 

Request Closed Captions 

Log in to your TechConnect Cloud account.

1. Select Media in the menu (closed captioning cannot be requested for content uploaded to Files).
2. Select the title of the uploaded video.
3. Scroll down and select Submit this Media for Captioning.
4. Fill out the form, selecting the type of captions you are requesting from the drop-down menu:
   • Computer-generated (ASR) -- takes approximately 1 day.
   • Human-generated -- takes approximately 5 business days.
5. Select Submit.

Request Closed Captions from TechConnect Cloud in Canvas

1. Select 3C Media within your Canvas course.
2. Select Add From Library.
3. To the right of the uploaded video's title, select the gear icon to open the drop-down menu.
4. Select Captions to request captions for the selected video.
5. Fill out the form. Select the type of captions you are requesting from the drop-down menu:
   • Computer-generated (ASR) -- takes approximately 1 day.
   • Human-generated -- takes approximately 5 business days.
6. Select Request.
