Q: Is there a way to mute the audio in a video uploaded to playposit, or do I complete editing the film prior to upload?
A: There isn't a feature that would allow you to disable the audio that is being streamed through PlayPosit. You would need to remove the audio before creating the bulb and adding it as a video source in PlayPosit.
Q: Will legacy 3C Media accounts be moved to TechConnect Cloud?
A: Only our branding name will change so everything you have uploaded to your 3C Media account will remain there.
Q: Is all of this keyboard navigable and captioned?
A: PlayPosit is keyboard navigable. Here is a link to PlayPosit's accessibility information: https://knowledge.playposit.com/article/82-accessibility. However, videos would need to have been previously captioned in order to display through the PlayPosit player.
Q: In the student example, did that start with an image or a video or either would work before creating the bulb?
A: When creating a bulb, you're prompted to add a video source. In addition to the video itself, you can add a thumbnail image to the bulb that displays at the beginning of the bulb. You also can add images to interactions within a bulb by using the Rich Text Editor.
Q: Can students add their own comments/questions to the bulb? If so, are they associated with video timestamp? And also if so, will other students be able to see their comments/questions?
A: Students can add their own comments to the notes section. This will only be viewed by the student and the teacher. The notes will be timestamped. The notes feature differs from the discussion forum, in that the discussion forum is viewable by both other students and the instructor.
Q: What is the origin of the name “bulb”? Is it essentially an interactive quiz function?
A: Both of PlayPosit's co-founders are former educators who created PlayPosit in their classroom! Their students actually coined the term “bulb” but you can think about it like a light bulb, a flower bulb - something that helps you to shine a light on your student’s learning and allows you to truly understand how they are learning.
Q: If we only use Pause does it show up as a zero-point assignment on the Grades page?
A: This will depend on how you have your grades configured in Canvas - if you only use pauses with 0 points attached but would like the video assignment to be worth 5 points for example, the assignment would pass to the gradebook as 5 points.
Q: What is my "Consumer Key" and "Shared Secret?"
A: Your institution’s admin will receive the consumer key and secret once you are fully onboard. Please have your Canvas admin request the LTI by emailing support@ccctechconnect.org.
Q: Is this automatically included with Canvas or does our district need to "adopt" it?
Your college's Canvas admin would need request TechConnect's video interactivity LTI by emailing support@ccctechconnect.org. Your college will then be placed on a waitlist for the integration.
Q: Can you choose number of attempts and calculation method?
A: Yes, you can do both.
Q: Do most instructors use bulbs for assignments, lectures, or tests?
A: A little bit of everything!
Q: Can the discussion template work with asynchronous viewing? And allow student to student interactions.
A: Yes, they can!
Q: So where do we upload our videos for captioning? Not 3C Media?
A: 3C Media Solutions captioning feature is temporarily unavailable. Please check our site regularly as we anticipate receiving additional funding. TechConnect, a grant funded by the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office, offers captioning services to faculty, staff, and administrators of the CCC's for instructor-owned, educational media as funding permits.
You may be able to acquire captions from the DECT grant directly, please visit their site for more information. We also have instructions for creating captions on Support page: (https://ccctechconnect.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360026655934-How-to-Create-Your-Own-Captions)
Also, If instructors are using ConferZoom to record their videos for their students, they can use the Audio Transcript as a display similar to captions display. https://ccctechconnect.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/36001
Q: Is a creative Creative Commons library of existing bulbs available for use?
A: Unfortunately, the pre-made bulb library doesn't have a Creative Commons filter. However, instructors can choose to share their bulbs in the pre-made bulb library via their profile area or per bulb created.
Q: Will the transcript pull the captions from YouTube or Vimeo?
A: All captions will be automatically added so long as the video was previously captioned.
Q: How are the terms and conditions different from YouTube's?
A: Although we cannot speak to YouTube's Terms and Conditions, we can provide a link directly to PlayPosit's Terms & Conditions for you to reference: https://app.playpos.it/terms/.
Q: Is there a way to enable a button in YouTube for direct access to editing?
A: This is not a PlayPosit feature.
Q: Where can I find a copy of these slides?
A: This Webinar is being recorded. We will post that recording on our support site along with the Q&A. After the Webinar we will send all those that registered for the Webinar as well those that attended the webinar a link to the recording. Unfortunately, the slides will not be available.
Q: If I register for an account, are my videos automatically shared with others? Or is that a setting that allows me to keep them private?
A: Bulb privacy settings are available to you in your Profile as well as in the Review area of your bulb. Also, it is important to note, that there is no need to "register" for an account, since when your college integrates, the service is available to you automatically by accessing PlayPosit through Canvas.
Q: How would you use YouTube videos with Bulbs?
A: Once you are ready to start building bulbs, you will be given the choice to select a Youtube video as a video source, then add your interactions.
Q: Tell us more about broadcast mode. Is that like a classroom response system like poll everywhere? Or Kahoot?
A: You can project the bulb from a screen at the front of the room and once learners join your Broadcast session, they will see the video on your projected screen. As the Bulb progresses, questions will appear on their individual devices when the video pauses and will disappear when the instructor continues to play the video.
Q: Help for colleges who are using Studio by Instructure who want to switch to PlayPosit (moving content)? Studio is Instructure’s add-on to Canvas that adds interactivity to video.
A: We can assist with replicating Studio's student experience by using interactions offered in PlayPosit, but we may not be able to transfer content from Studio to PlayPosit. This would need further discussion to see if there is a way to do this.
Q: Will there be more training/workshop for next step (after this training)?
A: This webinar is just an intro to our newest service. Once your college integrates, various trainings will be available to faculty, as well as those administering PlayPosit at their campus.
Q: How long will PlayPosit be funded?
A: Similar to our other TechConnect services (ConferZoom and 3C Media), we are looking to fund the video interactivity service long-term.
Q: I may have missed something at the beginning… But I am unclear on how creating a PlayPosit bulb as an assignment in Canvas actually gets added to, overlaid, on my existing 3C Media lecture videos. Thanks.
A: PlayPosit is a modular player, so when creating a bulb, you are not editing original videos, you are only applying an overlay of interactions to the video. In other words, when creating a video, you'll be prompted to add a video source and that video will then be streamed through PlayPosit's modular player. You can then add interactions to it that are only visible through PlayPosit's player.
Q: If the bulbs are graded, the grades can be exported to the Canvas Gradebook?
A: Yes, the grades are synced in the Canvas Gradebook.
Q: Will there be a presentation at OTC ’20?
A: Yes, more information on this soon!
Q: Can this be used with any YouTube video?
A: Yes, you even have access to YouTube's video library to search for videos to use.
