Q Is the closed caption option available when we use Zoom with our students? How would we
indicate we have a student who needs to use the closed captioning .If a student needs closed
captioning, they need to wait until after the event is recorded to see that, correct? (unless
you hire a live person to do the real-time transcription?) Does the college pay a fee for this
A Closed captions are available when a student is participating live, and requires the support;
there is no cost to the college. Read ‘Live Closed Captions - How to Submit a Request’
located in this support guide. When a student is not participating live, the Audio Transcript
features produces a caption-like text file that can be viewed in the recording as well as downl-
loaded as a text file.
Q Are there any plans to allow students to schedule and record online zoom meetings within
Canvas? It is my understanding that only teachers can host meetings.
A At this time we do not provide student accounts. However, there is an option for you to
schedule meetings for students, and allow them to join without you. View this article titled
‘Schedule for Student Groups’ to learn how to set up your meetings for students.
Q If I have a Zoom.us account, is it the same as a TechConnect Zoom (ConferZoom) account or will I
need a new one?
A Zoom is the provider behind our TechConnect Zoom (ConferZoom) accounts. If you have a free, basic
account we can moveyour account to TechConnect Zoom (ConferZoom) while keeping all your settings
and content in place. Contact CCC TechConnect Support at email@example.com to verify
your account status.
Q Do we need a separate account for each course even if they are all at the same campus?
A Your TechConnect Zoom (ConferZoom) account can be accessed for all your courses within the same
Canvas shell. If you teach at more than one college, you need a separate account for each college.
Q Will canvas recognize your TechConnect Zoom (ConferZoom) account if you have multiple, or will you
have to make sure you're logged into the respective TechConnect Zoom (ConferZoom) account before
you try to connect it into Canvas?
A Your TechConnect Zoom (ConferZoom) account email and Canvas email must match before you can
sync the accounts and schedule classes.
Q Is the same as ConferNow?
A They are the same, ConferNow was the original name for what we know today as TechConnect Zoom
Q What is the telephone number to call if our credentials are not in Canvas or TechConnect Zoom
A The best way to contact CCC TechConnect support is to submit a ticket to
firstname.lastname@example.org. However, we still answer the phones! Call 760-744-1150 ext 1537,
1554, or 1543.
Q Do students see the Identity email address for us when we set up meetings... basically is there
a risk that they would email back to that other email account instead of the school account?
A Your email settings are private, students only see what is available to them in Canvas. The
identify email is your Canvas email, the messaging email is where you would like to receive
reminders if other than the identity address.
Q What if I have 2 sections. Can both sessions tune in at the same time?
A Yes. You schedule from in one section, then generate a link to invite the students from the
other section to the meeting. The article ‘Invite Students & Guests Outside of the Course’ will
step you through the process.
Q I tried TechConnect Zoom (ConferZoom), but could not connect until I had Zoom open on my desktop.
Was there a way that TechConnect Zoom (ConferZoom) automatically opens Zoom? Do I need to do it
as separate activity?
A The application should launch even if not signed into your account; some behaviors may be
associated to your browser settings.
Q Do I have to be sure to make separate blocks for my different classes? Or will TechConnect Zoom
(ConferZoom) know not to double-book me for the same time slot, even though they are in different
A Appointment Booking slots are offered across all courses you teach within your Canvas account.
You may need to specify to your students if the offer is for just one course/section. No
concerns about double-booking. A feature enhancement to allow you to specifiy the course for
offering appointments is on the road map.
Q So the instructor sets up the block of time and the student sets up the appointment correct?
A Correct; our Canvas Guide for Students will show them how to use Appointment Booking.
Q I assume the recordings can also be downloaded and embedded outside of Canvas?
A Recording created from within Canvas will automatically download into the course when cloud
recording is enabled. You can also sign into your website portal account to capture a share link
for the recording to embed elsewhere. Learn how to locate the recording files in this article.
Q Is it possible to record the session, but not allow the students to "download" the recorded
A Yes. Learn how to restrict or allow viewers to download your recordings.
Q The issue is that I will have to have groups sign up for presentation times. I don't want to have
to do email requests and juggling time slots but give them blocks of times that they can
schedule themselves for. This would be different than office hours.
A A scheduled session can be used for whatever purpose you need - a class, an open office hours,
or a student group project. The sessions will appear in the course, so consider a title that
reflects the intended student group for that meeting. Remember to make sure your settings in
the website portal are appropriate to your needs. Appointment Booking is for one-on-one
meetings with a student.
Q If an individual student meeting is recorded, is it only that particular student that can see the

California Community College system. Services are at no cost to the colleges and it's employees.

A You have a choice to initiate the recording at any time during your presentation, or you can
enable a setting in your account to automatically record. Keep in mind that automatic
recording begin the moment anyone joins the room, so that prep or silent time becomes part of

to Canvas accounts? Assuming tutors have their account set up, how do they communicate
with students? Do they log on to the standard TechConnect Zoom (ConferZoom) website, or do they
need a Canvas shell set up?
A Tutors who are not in Canvas can schedule meetings in their website pportal account or from
the desktop app, then provide the links to students they are tutoring. If you college provides
tutors with a Canvas shell, the tutor would handle everything the same as the instructor.
Q Has anyone considered how the PG&E plan to cut off power to various locations around the
state for may be weeks (!) is going to affect our students and our teachers who depend on wifi
A TechConnect Zoom (ConferZoom) can be accessed from any location, so should you lose power or
wi-fi and relocate, you and your students will still be able to meet online.
Q Do tutors get access TechConnect Zoom (ConferZoom) through a specific website?
A We recommend a supervisor from the tutoring center submit a request to
email@example.com with the names and email for the tutors, along with the expected
end-date of their tutoring assignment. If a student signs up on our website, the account will
be denied as we would not know they were authorized to have an account.
Q Will there be any updates soon?
A Zoom pushes updates periodically, so be sure to check for updates from you Zoom desktop
app often; the Host and Member guide shows you how. The Canvas integration is always
being reviewed for update considerations; as we have new features or functionality, you will
Q What devices or apps are these features restricted to? In other words, will this setup only
work on a device that has full web browser support?
A TechConnect Zoom (ConferZoom) supports most operating systems and browsers. We will be adding

Q If the student joins a meeting from a link verses the Join button under TechConnect Zoom
(ConferZoom) will they be included in Attendance?
A If the invitee link is generated from within Canvas, they will be included in the attendance
Q When I enter TechConnect Zoom (ConferZoom) I only see myself from my camera. How do I turn on a
display of my computer screen so the students and I are looking at my computer screen?
A Sign into your website portal account, navigate to Meeting Settings, in the first section
‘Schedule Meeting’, disable ‘Host video’ and ‘Particpants video’ to be your default when joining a
meeting. Video can be turned on and off by both the host and attendees while in a meeting by
clicking on the video cam icon on the lower left of the tool bar.
Q How can tutor center supervisors get reports of TechConnect Zoom
(ConferZoom) usage, length of meetings and attendance for example?
A All information is private to the account holder; in a tutoring center environment you can
consider setting up a generic account for the supervisor, use that account for scheduling
sessions for the tutor. Your website portal account has a Reports section that provides usage
details, the number of attendees, and their signed in names (when you click on the number in
the Participants column). If you use Canvas, attendance reports do download to the course.
Q Does TechConnect Zoom (ConferZoom) adjust for international time zones for student meetings?
A Time zone options are available when scheduling, and apply as the start time
for the host and students. TechConnect Zoom (ConferZoom) is available 24/7/365.
Q Thanks for all the information. Can you please tell about the Waiting Room feature in
TechConnect Zoom (ConferZoom).
A The Waiting Room option places students outside of the actual meeting room until you admit
them individually, or as a whole. Read the article ‘Waiting Rooms’ article on our support site to

Q Can I allow recording of the students' "study group" or meeting so that I can review it later?
A Yes, if you enable ‘Automatic Recording’ in your website portal account settings.
Q How long does it take for recordings to download to Canvas?
A Be sure you record to the cloud; recordings will begin to process after the last person leaves
the room. Plan for 2-3 hours after the event ends to see the recording in Canvas.
